The Gefen EXT-UHDV-HBTLS-TX is a high-performance solution in a compact enclosure, designed for switching between 4K Ultra HD HDMI and VGA inputs and extending them over a single CAT-5e cable. This sender unit transmits signals up to 70 meters (230 feet) at 1080p and 40 meters (130 feet) at 4K resolutions. It features both automatic and manual switching options, along with a powerful built-in scaler that can upscale VGA signals to ensure stunning presentations and smooth transitions between sources. In addition to video with analog audio, the EXT-UHDV-HBTLS-TX extends RS-232 and 2-way IR when used with a compatible receiver. For simplified installation, Bi-Directional Power over HDBaseT™ (POH) technology allows the sender to power a compatible receiver, or be powered by it, eliminating the need for a power supply at one end of the installation.

How It Works

The Gefen EXT-UHDV-HBTLS-TX Sender works in tandem with a compatible HDBaseT™ Receiver to switch and extend AV signals from two sources to a remote display location. First, connect a high-definition HDMI source and/or a VGA source with its companion L/R analog audio to the Sender's inputs. The unit can be set to automatically switch to a live source or be manually toggled using the front panel button or RS-232 commands. Its powerful internal scaler can up-convert VGA signals to WUXGA resolution to ensure a high-quality image on modern displays. The selected audio/video stream, along with bi-directional RS-232 and 2-way IR signals, is then transmitted over a single CAT-5e cable to a compatible receiver. The system is powered using Bi-Directional Power over HDBaseT™ (POH), which allows a single 12V power supply connected to either the Sender or the Receiver to power both units, simplifying installation significantly.

System Requirements

Cabling: Shielded (STP) CAT-5e or better cable is recommended. Shielded (STP) CAT-6A is also recommended. Unshielded (UTP) CAT-5e or better cable may be acceptable depending on quality but is not the preferred choice. It is recommended to keep cables away from power lines and other sources of electromagnetic interference.

Receiver Unit: A compatible HDBaseT™ Receiver unit is required for operation. The recommended receiver is the EXT-UHDA-HBTL-RX.

For Firmware Updates: A firmware update requires a Windows PC running the Gefen Syner-G™ software. The PC must be connected to the Sender's RS-232 port via a direct connection or a USB-to-RS-232 adapter. A USB thumb drive and a USB Micro-B to Type-A adapter/cable are also required to load the firmware onto the unit.
