How It Works

To operate the Gefen EXT-4K300A-MF-41-HBTLS system, begin by connecting your source devices, such as an HDMI player, a DisplayPort™ computer, and legacy DVI or VGA equipment, to the corresponding inputs on the switcher. The switcher is the central hub of the system and can be connected to two displays simultaneously. A local display connects directly to the HDMI output, while a remote display connects to a compatible HDBaseT™ Receiver (sold separately) using a single CAT-5e or better cable run from the switcher's HDBaseT™ output. This HDBaseT™ connection also delivers power from the switcher to the receiver, simplifying installation. Once connected, the unit can be set to automatically switch to an active source, or you can manually select an input using the front-panel buttons, the included IR remote, RS-232, or contact closure. If a legacy DVI or VGA source is selected, the powerful internal scaler automatically upscales the video to 1080p Full HD or WUXGA to ensure a high-quality image on modern displays.

System Requirements

Cabling: For HDBaseT™ connection, a Shielded (STP) CAT-5e or better cable is recommended. For optimal performance with high-throughput signals, Gefen-brand HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort™ cables are highly recommended.

HDBaseT™ Receiver: A compatible HDBaseT™ Receiver is required for signal extension. The recommended model is the Gefen EXT-UHDA-HBTL-RX. To use the Power Over HDBaseT™ (POH) feature, a POH-compliant Receiver must be used.

Firmware Updates: To perform a firmware update, the following are required:

A Windows PC running the Gefen Syner-G™ software.

A USB thumb drive containing the new firmware.

A USB-Micro-B-male-to-USB-Type-A-female cable or adaptor.

Contact Closure Control: For input switching via contact closure, a low voltage, DPST (Double Pole, Single Throw), Normally Open (NO), momentary push button is required.
