How It Works

The Gefen EXT-DVI-FM2500 system operates with two compact components: a Sender module for your source and a Receiver module for your display. Installation is straightforward: the Sender module plugs directly into the DVI source, and the Receiver module connects to the remote dual-link DVI display. A two-strand, LC-terminated multimode fiber optic cable links the two modules to complete the connection. Finally, connect the included 5V DC power supply to the Receiver module to deliver a pristine, high-resolution picture. In most applications, the Sender module is powered by the DVI source, simplifying the installation by eliminating the need for a second power supply.

System Requirements

Source and Display: The system requires a source with a dual-link DVI output and a display with a dual-link DVI input.

Fiber Optic Cabling: A two-strand multimode fiber optic cable with LC-type connectors is required to link the Sender and Receiver modules. The maximum extension distance depends on the cable type used:

OM3 (laser-optimized 50/125µm): Up to 3300 feet (1 kilometer).

OM2 (conventional 50/125µm): Up to 1650 feet (500 meters).

OM1 (62.5/125µm): Up to 1000 feet (300 meters).

Power: The Receiver module requires the included 5V DC power supply for operation. The Sender module is designed to be powered by the DVI source; however, an external 5V DC power supply (included) is required if the source does not provide sufficient power through the DVI connector.
