How It Works

The Gefen DVI FM1000 DVI extender system operates with two compact, modular components: a Sender and a Receiver unit. The Sender unit plugs directly into the DVI port of your computer or other video source device. The Receiver unit connects to your remote DVI monitor or display. To complete the connection, a single strand of multimode SC fiber optic cable links the two units, replacing the need for a long and signal-degrading copper DVI cable. Power is connected to the Receiver unit using the included 5V DC power supply, and once the source is powered on, a crisp and vibrant DVI video signal appears on the remote display, completely free of any electromagnetic interference (EMI).

System Requirements

Cabling: The DVI FM1000 Extender must be operated with a user-supplied, multi-mode SC terminated fiber optic cable.

Source Device: A DVI source device with a DVI-D port is required. The source device should supply 5V of power to the DVI port to power the Sender unit.

Display: A DVI-compliant display with a DVI-D port is required.

Power: The included 5V DC power adapter is required for the Receiver unit. If the source does not provide adequate power to the Sender unit, the power adapter must be connected to the Sender instead.

Performance Requirements: Usage that exceeds the following resolution and distance limits is not supported:

1920x1200 will be extended up to 300m (990ft).
1600x1200 will be extended up to 500m (1,650ft).
1280x1024 will be extended up to 1000m (3,280 ft).
