How It Works

The Gefen EXT-DVI-CP-FM10 system operates with a Sender pigtail module and a Receiver pigtail module. To begin, plug the Sender pigtail end directly into the DVI source and plug the Receiver pigtail end into the display. A single-strand, SC-terminated multimode fiber optic cable connects the Sender and Receiver modules, transmitting the DVI signal over a long distance. The Receiver module must be connected to the included 5V DC power supply to operate. The Sender module is designed to draw power directly from the DVI source and typically does not need its own power supply unless the source device provides insufficient power through the DVI connector. Once all components are connected and the source and display are powered on, a vibrant, high-definition picture will appear on the remote display.

System Requirements

Source and Display: A DVI source (e.g., computer) and a DVI display.

Cabling: A single-strand, SC-terminated fiber optic cable is needed to link the Sender and Receiver modules.

For the maximum extension distance of 3300 feet (1000 meters), a 50/125µm multimode (OM2/OM3) fiber cable is required.

Alternatively, a 62.5/125µm (OM1) multimode fiber cable may be used, but the maximum range is reduced to 1000 feet (300 meters).

Power: The Receiver module must always be connected to the included 5V DC power supply.

The Sender module is designed to be powered by the DVI source; however, an external 5V DC power supply (one is included with the kit) must be used if the DVI source does not provide sufficient power.
