DVI KVM over IP Extender (EXT-DVIKVM-LAN)

EXT-DVIKVM-LANTX

The Gefen DVI KVM over IP provides a powerful and flexible AV over IP solution for extending and distributing DVI, USB 2.0, RS-232, IR, and bi-directional audio over a standard Gigabit Local Area Network. Supporting high-definition resolutions up to 1080p Full HD and 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA), this system allows for the creation of a massively scalable virtual matrix of over 65,000 Sender and Receiver units. Multiple receivers can simultaneously connect to any sender on the network, offering unparalleled flexibility for professional AV and IT environments. Ideal for large-scale remote workstation access and complex distribution systems, this extender is also fully compatible with Gefen's family of HDMI and VGA over IP products.

Key Features

Flexible Signal Extension over IP: Extends DVI, USB 2.0, RS-232, bi-directional stereo analog audio, and IR over a standard Gigabit Local Area Network.

High-Resolution Video Support: Supports resolutions up to 1080p Full HD and 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA), ensuring crystal-clear video quality.

Scalable Virtual Matrix: Allows for the creation of a virtual crosspoint matrix of just over 65,000 Sender and Receiver units, depending on network bandwidth and the number of ports on your network switch.

Mixed-Signal Compatibility: Any combination of Gefen's HDMI, DVI, and VGA over IP Senders and Receivers can be used together in a single, unified system.

High-Speed USB 2.0 Extension: Features two USB 2.0 ports on the Receiver, supporting data rates up to 480 Mbps and backward-compatibility with USB 1.1.

Intuitive Web Interface Control: A built-in web server in each Sender and Receiver unit provides simple and intuitive control for system set-up, operation, and field firmware upgrades.

Integrated Ethernet Switch: The Receiver unit features a built-in three-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, allowing for the connection of computers and other IP-enabled devices.

Professional Installation Features: Includes locking power supply connectors for secure connections and surface-mounting brackets. The 1U tall, half-rack width enclosures are also rack-mountable using the EXT-RACK-1U accessory.

How It Works

The Gefen DVI KVM over IP system operates with two main components: a Sender unit (EXT-DVIKVM-LANTX) and one or more Receiver units (EXT-DVIKVM-LANRX). First, connect your computer or other DVI source to the Sender unit's DVI input, along with its USB, RS-232, and audio interfaces. At the remote workstation, connect your DVI display, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals to the Receiver unit. Both the Sender and Receiver units are then connected to a common Gigabit Ethernet switch on your local area network (LAN) using CAT-5e or better cable up to 330 feet (100 meters). By adding multiple Senders and Receivers to the network, you create a flexible and massively scalable "virtual matrix," allowing any connected workstation to access any source on the network via the Receiver's web interface or the Gefen Keyboard Switching Controller software.

System Requirements

Network Requirements

  • A Gigabit network switch is required for operation.
  • The switch must support 8k or greater "jumbo frame" packets.
  • If the Local Area Network (LAN) is not exclusively dedicated to Gefen KVM-over-IP products, a managed switch is highly recommended.

Source Device Connections

  • A computer or other device with a DVI output to serve as the video source.
  • A computer with a USB port, connected via a USB (A-B) cable to the Sender, to extend KVM functions.
  • An RS-232 device connected via a DB-9 cable for serial control extension.

Cabling

  • Shielded CAT-5e or better cable is required for the network connection to the switch.
  • The network cable run from the Sender to the switch cannot exceed 330 feet (100 meters).

Power

  • The Sender unit must be powered by the included 5V DC locking power supply.

System Management (Recommended)

  • For setting up and controlling a video-over-IP network, Gefen highly recommends using the free Syner-G software suite and the EXT-CU-LAN Matrix Controller.
