Gen 2.0 Digital & Analog Audio over IP Receiver (EXT-ADA-LAN-RX)

EXT-ADA-LAN-RX

The Gefen Gen 2.0 Digital and Analog Audio over IP Receiver works with a companion Sender unit to extend audio and control signals over a Gigabit Local Area Network. This powerful receiver unit decodes analog L/R, coaxial digital, and optical digital audio, along with RS-232 and IR control signals, from up to 330 feet (100 meters) away from the Sender. Ideal for large-scale audio distribution, this system supports independent routing and can be massively scaled to include over 65,000 units, creating a flexible virtual matrix for professional AV and broadcast applications.

Key Features

Flexible Audio Outputs: Features analog L/R, coaxial digital, and optical digital audio outputs for versatile connection to amplifiers or AV receivers. All three outputs can be used simultaneously, though the analog output will not work with a Bitstream signal format.

Multi-Format Audio Support: Receives and decodes 2-channel LPCM audio and up to 5.1 channels of Bitstream audio, ensuring high-fidelity sound reproduction.

Integrated Ethernet Switch: Includes a built-in two-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, allowing for IP device pass-through or daisy-chaining of additional Receiver units.

Power over Ethernet (PoE): Supports 802.3af standard Power-over-Ethernet on the LAN 2 (PoE) port, allowing the unit to be powered directly from a PoE-enabled network switch without the need for an external power supply.

Versatile Control Integration: Extends RS-232 and IR signals over the network for seamless control of the connected audio amplifier or other devices. The front panel includes channel selection buttons for easy source switching.

Flexible Mounting Options: Features a low-profile, half-rack width enclosure that can be easily surface-mounted with the included L-brackets or installed in a Gefen 1U rack tray.

Advanced Management: Can be configured and managed via a built-in web interface, Telnet, or UDP, and is fully compatible with the Gefen Syner-G™ software and the EXT-CU-LAN Matrix Controller for enhanced control and system security.

How It Works

The Gefen Digital & Analog Audio over IP system operates using two core components: a Sender (TX) unit and one or more Receiver (RX) units. First, connect your analog (L/R) or digital (optical/coaxial) audio source to the Sender unit, which converts the signal for IP transport. The Sender connects to a standard Gigabit Local Area Network using a CAT-5e cable up to 330 feet (100 meters) long. The Receiver unit connects to the same network and decodes the signal, outputting it to an audio amplifier or powered speakers via its analog and digital outputs. By setting a Sender and Receiver to the same channel, a direct link is established. Adding multiple Senders and Receivers to the network creates a massively scalable virtual audio matrix, where any Receiver can tune into any Sender's channel, enabling flexible and dynamic audio routing in multicast mode.

System Requirements

Network Switch: When connecting through a Local Area Network, a managed gigabit switch is required.

The switch must have Jumbo Frame Support set to greater than 8k.

IGMP Snooping must be enabled on the switch.

Cabling: Shielded CAT-5e (or better) cabling must be used for network connections. The cable length between the Sender and Receiver, or between any unit and the IP switch, must not exceed 330 feet (100 meters).

Local Area Network (LAN): A dedicated LAN is not required but is highly recommended.

Management Software: The system is designed for use with the Gefen Syner-G™ Software Suite for IP configuration and firmware updates. For full setup and control, the Gefen EXT-CU-LAN Matrix Controller is highly recommended.

Power: If the unit is not powered by a PoE-enabled network switch, the included 5V DC power supply must be connected.
