How It Works

The Gefen Digital and Analog Audio over IP system operates with two main components: a Sender (TX) unit and one or more Receiver (RX) units. First, connect your audio source to one of the Sender's analog, optical, or coaxial inputs and attach any necessary RS-232 or IR control devices. The Sender unit then connects via a single CAT-5e (or better) cable to a port on a managed Gigabit LAN switch, drawing power directly from the network if a PoE-compliant switch is used. Each Sender is assigned a unique channel number through the web interface, and a Receiver unit tunes to that specific channel to receive the corresponding audio and control stream. By adding multiple Senders and Receivers to the network, you can create a flexible and massively scalable 'virtual audio matrix,' allowing any Receiver to be routed to any Sender on the network simply by changing its channel.

System Requirements

Network Switch

A managed gigabit switch is required when connecting through a Local Area Network.
Jumbo Frame Support (8k or greater) must be enabled on the switch.
IGMP Snooping must be enabled on the switch.
A dedicated LAN is not required but is highly recommended.

Cabling

Shielded CAT-5e (or better) cabling must be used for all network connections.
Network cables between the Sender unit and the IP switch must not exceed 330 feet (100 meters).
Field-terminated network cables must adhere to the TIA/EIA-568-B specification.
