How It Works

The Gefen AV over IP system operates with two core components: a Sender unit (encoder) and one or more Receiver units (decoder). The Sender and Receiver units are then linked over a standard Gigabit LAN using a single CAT-5e cable, functioning as a point-to-point HDMI extender for distances up to 330 feet (100 meters). By adding multiple Senders and Receivers to the AV network, the system transforms into a massively scalable virtual HDMI matrix. This allows any Receiver on the network to access any Sender via a simple web browser interface, providing a flexible and powerful solution for routing video and control signals.

System Requirements

Gigabit Network Switch: A Gigabit switch is mandatory for operation. For multicast configurations, this switch must support 8k jumbo frame packets.

Managed Switch Recommendation: If the LAN is not exclusively dedicated to Gefen AV over IP products, a managed switch is highly recommended to ensure network stability and performance.

Network Cabling: Shielded CAT-5e or better cabling is required for the network connection between the Sender and the switch or Receiver. Each cable run should not exceed 330 feet (100 meters).
